Making the impossible, possible

How often have you looked at a piece of music and thought, ‘We’ll never learn that!’ or ‘That’s too hard for us’.  This session for singers and choir leaders will introduce some of the techniques your choir can use to approach the seemingly unapproachable while enhancing your a cappella singing. With nowhere to hide, every member has a role in creating the fantastically blended, well-balanced sound your choir strives for, and Ben will be teaching you some of these basics so that your choir can confidently sing a cappella whilst pushing themselves with something that appears a bit more challenging.

Today’s session will be taking a classical crossover piece and exploring how to get the most out of your choir’s blend and balance when starting to learn a new piece.

This is a beginners’ introduction to Renaissance choral music in which each voice-part sings the same melody but at different times and different pitches, all fitting perfectly together and creating a rich tapestry of vocal harmony. We might start with a simple canon, and who knows where we'll finish – a glorious 8-part motet?
